Giving Back
Gehr Power Systems believes in giving back. As part of The Gehr Group of companies, we support our company-wide philanthropic efforts.
Gehr Family Foundation
From humble beginnings, Norbert Gehr built The Gehr Group into a global enterprise. While Gehr always believed in paying it forward, it was Norbert Gehr's own personal struggle with Lukemia that lead to the creation of the Gehr Family Foundation.
While undergoing treatment for cancer, Norbert Gehr came in contact with some of the top healthcare institutions in Southern California, including the City of Hope, the Keck School of Medicine at USC, and the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. The wonderful care he received at these facilities made him aware of the urgent need for cancer research, and in particular the treatment of leukemia for adult patients. Shortly before Norbert Gehr's death, he established The Gehr Family Foundation and made a significant ongoing commitment to support each of the three institutions. The Gehr Group employees also contribute to these causes.
The City of Hope has created the Gehr Family Center for Leukemia Research serving those in need, to address concerns, design custom leukemia treatment plans while offering some of the most innovative therapies available anywhere. City of Hope has been named a best hospital for cancer by U.S. News & World Report for over a decade, and a National Cancer Institute comprehensive cancer center, the highest designation that recognizes our commitment to cancer treatment, research and education. As a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, their doctors also help develop and improve evidence-based AML treatment guidelines for patients throughout the country.
The Gehr CURES Myeloid Malignancy Program was established at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2016 with the mission to create "quantum leaps" in the field by uncovering therapies aimed at curing myeloid malignancies and preventing the development of acute myeloid leukemia. Their research program includes laboratory-based research into the host immune response to aberrant myeloid cells, the epigenetic landscape and how they can modify it to suppress malignant clones, and a new program in which they explore inherited mutations or susceptibilities that lead to the development of myeloid malignancies in families.
Thanks to The Gehr Family Foundation, the Keck School of Medicine at USC has established the Gehr Family Center for Implementation Science. The Center focuses its research on methods for improving health-care delivery in a way that raises the standards for patient care and streamlines operations for health care providers.
The Gehr Group is honored to support these efforts to serve the local community and ultimately healthcare providers everywhere with improved research, care methods and overall healthcare innovation.
